1. Remove all decorations: First, remove all decorations from the Christmas tree. Carefully wrap all bulbs and place them into storage containers and boxes. If your tree is not pre-lit, remove the lights from the Christmas tree and wrap them up for storage.
2. Inspect the lights: If your tree is pre-lit, it is important to inspect the lights before putting your tree back in storage. Start at the bottom of the tree near the plug and follow the line of lights all of the way up the tree. If you notice any burnt out bulbs, replace them.
3. Dismantle the tree: After taking all of the decorations off of the tree, you are able to break the tree into pieces. Depending on the size of the tree, it may break into three or four pieces. It is important to keep in mind, though, that if the tree is pre-lit each section of the tree is likely plugged into the next.
